What is a Music Video?

A music video is a promotional piece of material and added medium to a track. It's purpose is to entertain but also to persuade the viewer that they like the music and to download the item. Sometimes music videos are controversial to draw and gain attention towards it, thus drawing attention to the track and the artist, a true example of this is Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' which was controversial due to the debated used of objectifying women, this sparked a debate in society which was successful in drawing attention and gaining viewers on the video which in turn attracted listeners to the track and more possibility of a purchase. So although the purpose is to entertain, a music video is designed to persuade and to be remembered so the viewer will spread the video and then the music. There are many theories based around the music video which I plan to research throughout my project to ensure I gather enough understanding to successfully produce my own effective product.
